I was kind of in my feelings yesterday. It was a beautiful night. I decided to take a walk through SoHo after Pilates. I meandered for a while people watching, until I walked up a block and spotted a photographer hyping up these four @ups guys in the middle of the street, taking their photo. I laughed, and smiled in their direction, continuing on under some scaffolding. “Get in, get in!” — they all urged me. Hesitant at first, I joined. ... the photo’s epic. But, the story’s even better. The photographer (@beautifulsoulsinnyc) has 230K followers. But — even more interesting than who he is (seriously, go look at his profile) were the stories that the UPS guys told me about working during COVID. Delivering the vaccine. Showing up when the city was baron. I stood there on Prince Street talking to them for a bit, swapping stories, appreciating their kindness, engulfed in this proper New York moment. I walked away, still grinning, with this souvenir. At least four people said hi to me as I made my way toward the train. I realized that I was radiating the happiness I felt. That happiness was a choice. And if I want more, I have to feel it, too. I have to be it. New York gets a lot of flask these days. But special moments like this are why it’s home ❤️
