" Stilt walking originates from culture and from unity.. Being so tall that you feel connected to everything that's above you.... It's down to earth but so high in the sky..... It is a different way of being grounded " _ Kiara “West Africans view a Moko Jumbie as a seeker or a protector and that their tallness is symbolic to the power of God.” This right here means a lot to me because there was a point in time where I didn’t think I’d be able to walk this tall and this fly ever again. Nearly 5 months have passed since I tore my ACL but I’m back. I’m strong and I’m capable. I am evolving. I was given the opportunity to showcase what a rich, deep, meaningful culture and history that stilt walking possesses. To show this art form in the different light that’s not you’re typical “costume like” nature. It is culture, it is passed down, it is an extension of yourself not only physically but mentally and spiritually. Stilt walking has graced me with unity in friends that have become family. Healing, during pain and joy during sadness. I give to you my blackness, my hours of training, every hard fall I’ve taken, and my respect to the art form. Thank you to Amari, Joré, Avery, Jimmy, and Christina for your creativity, your kindness, and your time. Thank you for creating greatness and inspiring me.
