Did you know Dingoes were brought to Australia by humans about 8,500 years ago? They were originally domestic dogs, and while they flourished as wild animals, Europeans landing in Port Jackson in 1788 noted that some dingoes lived among Indigenous people. Dingoes are Australia's largest land-based predator, hunting animals as large as red kangaroos in size. Unfortunately, this means some people consider dingos pests as they can target farmed animals, such as sheep. This, and breeding with other dogs, has led dingoes to be considered a "vulnerable species". Luckily, Fraser Island (K'gari), where these photos were taken by @adventure.seeka, is a World Heritage Site which also acts as a Dingo sanctuary. There are around 120 purebred dingoes on Fraser Island, all of which are tagged for tracking and so that they can receive veterinary care.
