Today we talk about one of my favourite topics....Emotional intelligence (EI) 🧠 EI is the capacity to be aware of and manage one’s own emotions, and the emotions of others. (In very simple terms... don’t worry, we will get into it) ✨ It is a relatively new concept, having only been coined in the early 1990s by psychologists Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer, but it has quickly gained traction as an important tool for understanding and predicting human behaviour.🫂 Salovey and Mayer described it as “a form of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one's own and others' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them, and to use this information to guide one's thinking and action”. 💭 This concept of EI was popularised by Daniel Goleman, Doctor of psychology and scientific journalist at the New York Times, when he started writing about the research in the newspaper. In 1995 Daniel published “The Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ”, which ended up becoming an international bestseller.📖 Alongside these pioneers, Israeli psychologist Reuven Bar-On, along with the Canadian assessment company Multi Health Systems, developed the first scientifically validated EQ scale, the EQ-i. The test was released in 1997 and has since become the market leader, with over 1.5 million tests given worldwide. It is often used in business and successful leadership.💪🏻 More to come... 📸 @nudamag
