Just a few years ago a historic investment in climate action at the scale of the Inflation Reduction Act would have been unimaginable. Yet our movement made it happen. In reference to the latest IPCC report — if emissions continue at current rates, we have about 5.5 years left before passing the critical threshold of 1.5oC warming, beyond which impacts to our civilization, planet, and way of life may be irreversible. Biden’s goal of reducing emissions by 50% by that date is only half of what we need. On the positive side, the stated impact of this bill will prevent 3,900 premature deaths and up to 100,000 asthma attacks annually by reducing particle pollution according to estimates. Overall, the Inflation Reduction Act is a win for the Environmental Justice movement nevertheless we have to keep our foot on the pedal and by electing leaders who will not make compromises that endanger and delay climate justice. #InflationReductionAct #ClimateJustice
