😍😍😍 On the internet weekends we laugh and get personal. My dad was incarcerated for about 90% of my life until he was murdered when I was 15. Ironically, and probably astonishing to most - at one point I also struggled with math. Initially I was really good at it - I was placed in the Gifted and Talented program at age 7. In fact, I even loved fractions. But I caught the chicken pox and when I returned to school my class has moved on to decimals. I was lost. And things only became more confusing from there. By the time I got to Algebra in junior high, I was convinced “I wasn’t good” at math. I knew I was “smart” but I accepted a stereotype that most kids do...math is HARD. Then going to 2 different junior highs and 3 high schools by the 10th grade didn’t help at all. At age 29 my ex-mother in law encouraged me to enroll in community college and I was apprehensive. When I explained why she told me, “Math can’t be disrupted - when you miss out on 1 building block you’ll always have a shaky foundation of it. You’re not “bad” at math, your learning was disrupted.” So, although I placed pre-algebra - I enrolled in the basic math course below it and every semester/quarter, I took a math course from basic math to college statistics. I use so much of what I learned on Stats almost daily. It’s foundational for my business, especially understanding how to forecast, present info and even understanding how people manipulate data.
