Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un 🤍 My beloved grandfather passed away yesterday, and I struggle to put into words just how much he meant to me. He was an outstanding journalist that traveled the world and told stories of important historical events. He was the first journalist to break the news about end of the Iran Hostage Crisis. Although he had a tremendous career, to me he was Abba. He lived with my family in Iowa for several years where he was a fierce (and often sole) supporter of all of my antics. He was the first person in my family to support my interest in the legal field, and was so excited when I told him I was running for student body president in college. He loved when I would play with his hair and tell him about my career aspirations. He was the sweetest, most gentle man and would always try to cool me off when I was upset. He was a man that never held grudges and was always down for an adventure. I’ll miss you always, Abba. I’ll miss eating kulfi at 2am with you and showing you family videos. I’ll miss your laugh and finger wagging “no” when I ask you if you want more soup. Most of all, I’ll miss your presence. I love you always. May Allah grant you amongst the highest levels of Jannah.
