It all started at Bethel Temple in 1993 when Pastor Tommy Barnett arrived in #LosAngeles with his son, Matthew Barnett, who had a burden on his heart to be a pastor in this city of great need. His expectations were quickly let down when the small church of 40 members slowly dwindled down to only one, leaving him doubtful and confused.
Still, with a dream of finding a historical site to build a church out of, it was just one year later, in 1994, when @matthewbarnett1 saw the vacant, 400,000 sq. ft. Queen of Angels Hospital. After its closing in 1989, the old building remained available to lease and was occasionally used as a movie set. The location of iconic scenes in "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (1984), "Halloween" (1978), and more, when auction-time came, the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart heard offers even upwards of $20 million from the Hollywood film industry. But after hearing the Barnett's desire for God-led service to the community, the Sisters accepted their offer of just $3.9 million and thus, the Dream Center was underway.
Twenty-eight years later, the Los Angeles Dream Center continues to serve the community with Jesus at the center.
Celebrating 28 years. #Anniversary
