Thank you @myronmedcalf @startribune for publishing my words of advice for a Young Angela Rose starting High School!
When I was younger I was always oscillating between shooting for perfection and failing terribly due to giving up because I felt I ‘couldn’t’ do it. I ‘couldn’t’ understand physics or advanced algebra, when in actuality I gave up many times before actually trying consistently throughout a semester.
I will say my own mental health had an aspect to this, but I had to learn and am still learning how to build consistently without burning out. I was all wrapped up in my grades but yet would still procrastinate and stress myself out trying to be perfect at the last minute. I couldn’t understand why I would self-sabotage like that! It didn’t help that many times, I still got away with the grade I wanted! But sometimes it majorly back-fired.
Who else grew up believing their worth was their final grade? Who else knows that feeling of wanting to do well but not giving yourself the best chance because of anxiety and poor time management?
I have so much more to say on this topic, but ultimately I only had 100 words, but what would you say to your younger self starting High School?
