Citizens of the GBR recently hosted #GoProFamily members out on the Great Barrier Reef onboard @reefmagiccairns & @dreamtimecairns to share our progress, learnings and future plans for the #GreatReefCensus 📷🐠 The Great Reef Census has become one of the world's largest marine citizen science initiatives, collecting tens of thousands of reconnaissance images from hundreds of reefs across the GBR (mostly shot on #GoPro) that are then able to be analysed by citizen scientists across the world. As the impacts of climate change become more advanced, scientists & managers need this up-to-date information on individual reefs to better target their resources and protections. It was so great to have @goproanz family members up on the Reef as we get ready for a massive campaign to analyse the 42,000 images collected last year, and then to hit the water for the third Great Reef Census in October.
