From @curlytiff The look would just not be the same had I straightened my hair! Growing up there was so much pressure to get rid of my “pelo malo” or bad hair. Instead of embracing my hair for what it is, I was told to try burning it between the 2 plates of an iron or to drench it and let it simmer in an acid— keratin and other straightening treatments. There is so much societal pressure to straighten your hair and every formal event the question always is: “Are you planning on straightening your hair?” There is nothing “too casual” or informal about natural hair.
