Brushing your hair is important because it stimulates the scalp (increasing blood flow = hair growth / healthier hair), helps distribute your natural oils that hydrate, nourish & add shine to your hair, reduces buildup and gets rid of the loose strands. Here are a few hair brushing tips 🤍
- I brush my hair around 3-4 times a day to to keep it detangled. I do this when I wake, 1-2 times throughout the day and then before I sleep. Although don’t over-brush if your hair doesn’t get tangled easily or if you have shorter hair, this can lead to breakage and hair loss / damage. In this case, twice a day is fine.
- I section my hair and start brushing at the bottom to make the detangling process as smooth as possible.
- I brush my hair as slowly and gently as possible to avoid breakage. Vigorous brushing can lead to damage.
- Every time I brush my hair I pull out the loose strands from the brush so there is never loose hair in my brush, this is to help keep it clean.
- I wash my brush once a week when I wash my hair. A dirty brush can lead to grease, dandruff, limp hair, cause odour and an irritated scalp.
- I brush my hair before washing it to help reduce it getting too tangled. Detangling wet hair can cause more damage. Be extra gentle when brushing wet hair, it is more prone to breakage than dry hair.
- I’ve linked the brush I use most in my “Hair Products” highlight. For brushing curls, a wide tooth comb is best to help make them last longer.
