you asked for it! here’s my full, in-depth, no-setting-left-un-shared breakdown of my optimized iPhone camera settings for reels. I recently upgraded my iPhone 13 pro max to the 14 pro max and brought over everything I’ve learned since I started shooting video for here! I’m happy to answer any questions I can in the comments, but here’s a few common ones that might answer yours: 30fps vs 60fps: this is purely a stylistic choice. I do not like the look of 60fps. it’s too smooth for my style of shooting and looks fake to me. I prefer something closer to a true cinematic 24 fps— which makes videos look more timeless in my opinion. “most compatible” setting: this is the true game changer that allowed me to switch from 1080p back to 4k. I CANNOT stress enough how important it is to switch your iPhone to this video format if your end result is posting here. this puts your video in an h.264 format which instagram is much less likely to compress as it does HEIC. if this sounds like greek to you, just try it out and see for yourself! gimbals: no. I do not use one... 😂 the iphone (especially the newer models) have incredible stabilization features built right in + I have been shooting photography for well over a decade, so I have learned a thing or two about holding still while recording! You can get there, just practice. what about android users?: I do not own an android device, nor have I had any experience shooting on one! I have since learned from some android users that my non-iPhone-specific settings do translate over to android devices. unfortunately, I can only offer detailed advice for iPhone. maybe one day I’ll be able to try shooting with another phone camera and can offer tips then!
