“Murder is one of the leading causes of death in Indigenous Women, Girls and 2 Spirited Peoples. We are Murdered and kidnapped at a much higher rate than any other ethnicities, despite us only being 4% of the population. Inspired by artist Jaime Black’s art installation REDress, this project, Unforgotten- in collaboration with @dante_biss_grayson and @skyeaglecollection - is to raise awareness for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Girls and 2 Spirited Peoples. In many Indigenous communities we believe that the color red symbolizes the only color that spirits can see- so by hanging the red dresses in the trees, we are in a way inviting the missing or lost spirits to find their way home again,” @umendaterih for the @iowaartscouncil Resilience grant.
