Across the country, students who survived school shootings find themselves turning to each other for support. “Talking to people who know what you’ve gone through is a full feeling,” says Jordan Gomes, who survived the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in fourth grade. “It makes you feel a little less alone.” Gomes estimates she’s become friends with over 50 young survivors, many of whom she keeps in touch with through social media. These connections have helped her reckon with feelings of frustration and despair over how little has changed with gun violence since the Newtown shooting. By grim necessity, these sprawling groups keep growing. Read these students’ stories through the link in our bio. (Illustration: @lucyengelman)
