60% of your health is determined by WHERE you live. Where you live determines whether you have access to healthy food, safe housing, clean air, education, employment, places to exercise or access to health services. It also determines your daily habits, traditions, cultural practices, the types of people, and your lifestyle. Here in the London we: -Love to booze & party -Have a diet that consists mostly of processed food -Spend little time in nature -Hardly see the sun -Place little importance on community & too much on individuality -Work hard in unfulfilling jobs -Breathe city air -Drink tap water -Live in a busy stressful environment As a result, we’re incredibly UNHEALTHY and UNHAPPY (compared to many other places). In contrast, if you look at the Blue Zones - locations with the highest number of centenarians (people who live to 100), they all have a few things in common, they: -Eat a diet rich in locally sourced whole food such as veg, meat & fish -Consume alcohol in moderation -Exercise is built into their daily life -Spend a lot of time outdoors -Have access to clean air -Have a life purpose -A healthy social network -Place great importance on family & community So, it’s important to consider these factors and really ask ourselves WHERE does health REALLY begin? Some cities and locations are not conducive to a healthy and happy life and the modern conveniences that we think are HELPING us are actually HARMING us. It’s important we see health from this broader perspective. Once we do, we can take control by actively and intentionally optimising our habits, drinking less alcohol, filtering our air and water, choosing local food, figuring out our life purpose... or if you’re in a position to do so by changing where you live altogether. Remember, change starts at an individual level and if we can make positive changes toward better health, collectively we can move the needle enough to make REAL and lasting positive changes in our families, communities, cities and our countries.
