"I'm okay with people being gay but you don't need to flaunt it in our face" a common thing we hear in the community. hetero couples can walk around holding hands - no big deal. two women or two men -- everyone stares. do you want to know why we show up? why we are so visible? because so many of us wish we saw it more when we were younger. to see that it was "normal" and acceptable. because it is literally saving lives. the Trevor Project did a survey and found that more than half of LGBTQ+ youth contemplate suicide -- BUT more than half of youth said that brands who support the LGTBQ+ community positively impacted how they felt about being LGBTQ+. so when they are seeing individuals who look like them, act like them, reflect back as to who they are - it elevates their mental health. visibility matters. representation matters. it could honestly save a life. so I will flaunt it.
