And just like that, our three and a half month North American tour begins to evaporate like smoke. 4 more shows. Dallas, Monterrey & 2 in CDMX. It took many months of preparation, 5 phases, actually... 1) My programming & setup build phase at home, then 2) a week in NYC with just me & Robert helping him learn the ropes on the organ, then 3) a week at Roger’s studio (me, Roger, Dave Kilminster, Robert, Amanda & Shanay) to do our pre-pre-production and helping the girls find their voice in this and brainstorming with Roger in full & beautiful experimental mode, that was my favorite phase, then 4) a music rehearsal with the full band, then 5) a full production phase at Penn State arena. That took from February to end of June. I have to say the view of the USA post-pandemic (if that is indeed where we are) & especially post-4 truly debilitating years of you-know-who as rogue president, has been an eye opener. I see a country in dire need of love & care. Vast homelessness, street drug problems, empty store fronts & a social awkwardness that is hard to miss. Strange moneyed up trendy neighborhoods with very young people dining at very expensive restaurants really show off the inequality, and the homelessness shows how close to the financial edge so many are. This show is all about the cocktail of unnecessary insanity that helps create this environment and to somehow sell us the idea that we are not all in this together, when obviously, we are. And then my own process of coming out of my shell to be a social animal again. All a unique experience. I feel like this is Roger’s masterpiece & I am so proud to have been asked to do it. It’s a beautiful, inclusive & emotional show and I hope my role in it has been as fulfilling for you to listen to as it has been for me to play. As for Roger, I don’t know where he gets the energy. He’s singing & playing beautifully, he’s physically all over the stage and he’s communicating on a level I haven’t seen him reach previously. It’s been a love thing. Can’t wait to start in Europe this March. Hope to see you there... jc x
