Had my great-grandmother never come to the United States, with 6 children in tow, I wouldn’t exist at all. After my grandfather, an immigrant from Chihuahua, Mexico, passed away in his 20s, my grandmother was left to raise two small children on her own. She continued to persevere, eventually remarrying, and her daughter (my mother) went on to become an attorney. She raised me with the idea that choosing to help others, even when we don’t have to, is the ultimate reason for being alive and I carry that with me in everything I do. Also, be kind, always. Your character will get you where you want to go, even if you face rejection.
