Many parents who were surveyed and/or interviewed in the Ripple Effect study described being the first generation in their family to openly address child mental health concerns as part of child-raising. In fact, only a few of the 49 parents in the in-depth discussion group grew up in a household where mental health was discussed—and some grew up in families where mental health was stigmatized.
