PICARD COSTUME ARTISANS SPOTLIGHT Imario Susilo - Costume Concept Artist @imarioart When forging the relationship of collaboration with a Costume Concept Artist, as a Costume Designer, you really have to be vulnerable and trust them to get inside your creative process. You're sharing all the details of your intentions so they can work to articulate them expertly. When I was first introduced to Imario, I just felt like I was in a safe creative space to do just that - and the work that came from our collaboration is something we can both be proud of. The Costume Concept Art is where the approval process starts and the work on creating the costumes begins - it is what is shown to Producers, Directors, Department Heads - if it doesn't resonate from the onset, you can't get out of the gate and that's a dangerous place to be in when you have so little time to prep. Imario immersed himself in our department - creating relationships with our large-scale crew - and working with each faction of our workroom to support them throughout the process of construction. The Borg Queen alone was a full-time collaboration with Imario developing the artwork and digital files that were 3D printed to create her spine, ports, etc. - he worked diligently with our Specialty Costume Keyperson @syzygy_designs , our Key Textile Artist @ivorypix and Textile Artist @raddudejohn , in creating all of the graphic art which we layered to create the unique BQ fabrics. Working with Textile Artist/Head Dyer @dye_namic_t to create all of the artwork and digital files that would be the perfect art deco nod to Guinan's 10 Forward environment... the contributions are immeasurable, and the spirit and infectious joy that Imario infused into the process will forever bring a smile to all of our faces.
