Special delivery from my old friend @thomascampbellart
- Once upon a time, I was invited along with 2 other up and coming amateurs, Brian Sumner and Cairo Foster to tour Hong Kong and Vietnam. This was a first of its kind, no cell phones, GPS, video cameras, just our skateboards, lonely planet books and whatever we can fit in our back packs and strap to our mopeds. By far my favorite trip and photo came from this adventure.
After skating Hong Kong for about a week, it was time for us to head to our second and final stop, Vietnam.
While taking off, literally in the air, Thomas saw these crazy looking saucers and told us he wanted to check them out on our way home. I don’t remember seeing them from the plane but I do remember how excited Thomas was about the find.
After an epic tour in Vietnam (words will never do this tour justice) we were all a little beat up and tired but excited to make our way home. It turned out we had a 3 hour lay over in Hong Kong before flying to LAX, just enough time to grab our boards and exit the Hong Kong airport to check these saucers out. I’m not sure why Thomas asked Brian to try the gap first, maybe because he’s goofy footed and it would make for a better shot? It was a complete pain in the ass to get up there, we had to stand on each others shoulders while scaling up. After a couple attempts, Brian was over it. Honestly I didn’t want to deal with the situation but I knew how cool it looked and how much Thomas wanted this shot for the article. After a couple goes, I handled my business and we were back in customs as if nothing happened. I remember finally getting to LAX, @jamiethomas and @andrewreynolds picked me and Brian up like two proud dads. It’s moments like this I’ll never forget. Thank you @thomascampbellart
- Note - I’ve never seen this take or angle until now..
