WORLDPRIDE 2026 IN AMSTERDAM It’s official! Under the theme “UNITY”, Amsterdam will host a World Pride for the first time in history! 25 years after the liberalisation of civil marriage, Amsterdam will once again be the centre of the world in 2026 The occasion is the silver anniversary of the opening of civil marriage to same-sex couples. This opening triggered a positive wave that now makes it possible to marry in 29 countries. So the theme of “unity” stands for the bond that one enters into as a couple through marriage. But it also stands for the bond we should build within our LGBTI+ community. A bond that says you will always be there for each other, in good times and bad, in prosperity and adversity, in sickness and in health, to love and to care, and that we are only free when we can all be ourselves. WorldPride is a global event that promotes visibility and awareness of LGBTI+ issues internationally. The first WorldPride took place in Rome in 2000 and was subsequently organised in Jerusalem, London, Toronto, Madrid, New York and Copenhagen-Malmö. In 2023, Sidney will be the host. On 29 October 2022, the “offers” from Orlando and Amsterdam were presented to the 400 InterPride members from 70 countries at the World Conference in Guadalajara. “The InterPride members had to make a difficult decision. In Orlando, they would commemorate the attack on Club Pulse, which was 10 years ago at the time. This important fact will therefore have a place in our programme.
