Beyond honoured that the lovely folks at @caughtbytheriver chose one of my pieces for their summer 2022 published 15 year anthology 🥰. I wrote the piece after having a few months off work with what I guess you’d call a stress related burnout meltdown/nervous breakdown. During that time I had to really pare back my life to the essentials - I couldn’t drive, could barely cook, thought I was hearing voices, had weird dissociative episodes where I blacked out then came round somewhere completely different to where I thought I had been. During that time, the only things I could really do that didn’t cause panic attacks were either meditating or walking. I walked up and down the River Taf in Cardiff so many times ... the Taf Trail goes near my house, so I’d take a bottle of water and some gentle music and walk, and walk, and walk. During those walks, my nervous system started to calm down, & I got curious about the parts of the Taf I was walking past. I researched. I wrote. I started to recover. The lovely people at @caughtbytheriver were good enough to publish the resulting pieces. I learned a lot about the history of Cardiff through the Taf - in many ways, the history of this place is contained within its flow. Anyway, the anthology is available in their bandcamp. They are a wonderful trove of writings, poetry, photography, music and art about the natural world around the shores of this island. Big love to all the CBTR crew ❤️❤️❤️. Also thanks to the NHS and @mindcymru for resources & support that helped hugely in my recovery. ❤️
