PICARD COSTUME ARTISANS SPOTLIGHT
Mitch Kenney - Costume Supervisor
#mitchellraykenney
Mitch and I got thrown into the deep end of the pool together! My start on Season One of STP was late in the game - Mitchell was already on board and was the first call I made. We had not yet worked together but Mitch is very highly regarded in the field, and after that first call, I knew I had a true partner.
I've focused a lot in this "Spotlight" on the makers, the craftspeople and visual artists on our crew, and it may be hard for people outside of our field to understand what a gifted artist someone who has the title of Supervisor would be, but Mitch is an artist, and a master in his craft. As Costume Supervisor and Designer, ours was a partnership in execution and a co-piloting of a very massive endeavor on a critical timeline. I can dream all the dreams, but if we can't get a plan together to make it happen, on time and on budget, it's over.
Mitchell has a long history in costumes, working as a Set Costumer for years, then a Key and now, for decades, as a highly respected Supervisor. He is the master of finding the team, bringing together the best artists for the project and to support the Costume Designers vision. He worked extraordinary hours to make sure we had the best possible costumes to go to camera, keeping everyone on point towards the goal of professional excellence and just being a damn good man in the process. (He is also a stellar fit model in a pinch!)
Our Picard Costume Department was comprised of over thirty artists and Mitchell was coach, mentor and guide to all of us. I'm so thrilled that his work on this show has given him a well-earned Emmy nomination from a peer group that has valued his master skills in costuming for decades.
