Finally got to use this audio 😂 . . While in a lily white town, when headed to a restaurant we were greeted by a person who asked me and the homie if “we were enjoying our day off..” This was because everyone in the town of color was a worker or server. I responded “day off?” To which he turned beet red, stuttered and asked if we were enjoying the convention (to which I was flown out to perform for) and walked us to our table, head low. Then this couple beside us kept staring over..at least about 5 times, before I decided to pull out my phone because I KNEW they’d do it again. (All after the other family at the end beside them kept staring over first..) It’s okay if they’ve never seen Black excellence before, they could always just say hi next time. Everyone in the ENTIRE town with the exception of some staff for the convention, were very unwelcoming, until we got on stage..then of course they loved our blackness thereafter. It was nuts...but we truly need to occupy these rural areas.. being in a town with less than 2% black people had me walking around like “yaasss bitch you’re getting ALLADIS TUHDAY” We are literally breaking stereotypes with our presence alone.. So they can look at me next time and not think I’m here to wait on their table or just taking the “day off..”😑 Looking forward to more opportunities to be a positive example for the culture in spaces like these, so these mirco agressions could hopefully slow tf down. It’s prettttyyyyy lame..
