Reflecting on Murray Island, Torres Strait 🌺 Another incredible landing over Gelam’s tail but this time it was welcomed by a lot of emotions knowing we had come a long way to acknowledge, honor and celebrate a historic moment in Australian History - The 30th Anniversary of Mabo Day. As I continue to learn, I will always be amazed at how strong the culture and traditions are. Listening to Elders, basket weaving with the ladies, playing with the girls and dancing with all the women was my highlight. I felt empowered and proud to practice culture and identify myself as a Dauareb woman. Everyone pumping each other up and supporting one another was pure joy. It was a heartwarming feeling. Being immersed in the culture once again, left me feeling inspired. I’m excited to continue practicing culture no matter how far away we are and also get back to creating what I love with purpose.
