A couple months ago, I had a conversation with my team about what my next chapter looks like for me in my career. In that conversation I used the word “retirement” which Jay-Z has me re- thinking now (see Kevin Hart interview) However, when I used the word retirement it was in reference to styling not fashion in it’s entirety. I even told @brandicedaniel she is throwing my retirement party 😆 So in these conversations, I pondered what I wanted to do in the next 18 months that I haven’t done. I thought long and hard and said THE MET GALA. That’s something I have not done. I want to style a client for it and or attend. Actually both. So I thought I had a new goal as a stylist. Welp, I did that already too. December 6, 1999 to be exact with @lilkimthequeenbee and even sat at “the table” with her because that’s how she gives it up. -The theme was “Rock” You see back then we were the only ones in the room. It was weird and unfortunate. So much so, that I forgot I was even there. Today it blesses me to see how far black and brown stylists have come. In 2022, styling for and attending the Met Gala is very regular when you are at the top of your game for US. I’m happy to be here to witness all of the powerful strides we have made collectively and to also witness the opportunities that we have access to now...Along with the proper respect given for our art in real time. It is my duty to continue to contribute to more of us gaining these types of opportunities through my work at @misahyltonfashionacademy My body of work and influence is crazy.
