The Beirut Explosion affected many migrant workers including Syrians and Palestinians. For us personally on 4th August 2020, we were in a 'safe house' in Beirut, waiting for news regarding our repatriation. There were 20 women in an unfurnished, run-down apartment surrounded by suitcases. When the explosion happened, we were thrown through the room. We thought it was a war starting and all we could think about is how we could get home to our country. Migrant Domestic Workers were among the first to clean up the debris and damage of the explosion. Many of our sisters, that still lived with their employers had to start cleaning up within hours after the explosion. We stand in solidarity with the families of the victims and all those demanding justice and accountability as well as reparations. We hope these demands will include the migrant workers that lost their lives too. To our brothers and sisters that lives were brutally taken from them on 4th August: We hope you finally found peace. Rest In Power!
