A mama’s instincts can be insanely powerful for which positions she needs to labor in. Having a road map can still be beneficial because it can help conserve energy, allow for baby to engage in the pelvis easier, reduce the need for intervention, and often decrease stalled labors. During labor you want to help create space in the pelvis so your baby is able to descend down. Different positions can help create this space based on where in the pelvis your baby is. Here are a few ideal positions for each: Pelvic inlet - deep squat, legs externally rotated, walking, sitting on toilet seat backward, rounding back, and tucking tailbone under you Mid pelvis - asymmetrical positions, side lunge, walking stairs, half kneeling on stability ball, moving in diagonals, and seated on stability ball Pelvic outlet - front to back rocking, quadruped, 1/4 squat, internally rotating at hips with knees in and ankles out, keeping sacrum free to move, and anterior pelvic tilt (imagine tail lifting up) We hope this information helps! All of this and more is found in our Prepping for Labor and Delivery Course! What was your favorite position to labor in? Let us know in the comments below! ✨
