katsu sandos; a favorite sandwich using @kingshawaiian to put in your rotation if it’s not already— really anything tonkatsu, count us in. 🙋🏻♀️
In Asia, you can find katsu sandos neatly packed up in convenience stores or bakeries, as a quick ready-to-eat, delicious sandwich. You can make these at home without the trip, pack them up to eat later in the day as a snack, for a picnic or eat them immediately!
We used @kingshawaiian sweet sliced bread to make these sandos, which gives a touch of sweetness from the fluffy bread and is delicious paired with the savory crispy tonkatsu! 🤝 a perfect match.
ɪɴɢʀᴇᴅɪᴇɴᴛꜱ:
• @kingshawaiian sweet sliced bread
• 4 boneless pork loin chops
• 1 cup flour
• 1 cup panko
• 2 eggs whisked
• salt + pepper
• garlic salt
• shredded cabbage
• japanese mayonnaise
• katsu sauce
• dijon mustard
• butter
• neutral frying oil
ʀᴇᴄɪᴘᴇ:
• Put flour, panko and whisked eggs in 3 separate bowls. Season the flour + panko as desired.
• Place the pork chops in the flour, then egg, then panko; making sure it is completely covered in every step. Drip any excess egg off the pork chop as you don't want additional egg on the pork chop here.
• Once all the pork chops are breaded, heat a pan with neutral frying oil on medium heat. Once the oil is ready, add the pork chops in, slowly rotating to each side twice for a total of 4-5 minutes until the panko crust is golden brown.
• Place all of the pork chops on a rack to cool.
• Place your sliced bread on parchment paper and add butter to one side and a mixture of mayonnaise + dijon mustard to the other. The butter will help to ensure the oil from the katsu doesn't leak to the bread.
• Place a tonkatsu on the buttered side of the bread + add katsu sauce to it along with shredded cabbage.
• Place the other side of the bread on top and fold the parchment paper over it. Use a cutting board or heavy plates to flatten the sandwich together for about 5 minutes, so it compresses together.
• Afterwards, cut off the crust of the bread (as snacks for later) and cut the sandwich in half! A perfect sandwich for now or later!
