Sweets are NOT treats!🍬🙅‍♂️
It may seem harmless, but really the long term conditioning of this mindset can have a profound effect psychologically.
Do you reward your kids with candy even when you know it’s bad for them?
We’re unknowingly programming our kids to view unhealthy food as a reward instead of teaching them that treats should be something that’s genuinely good for them.
Setting up the habit early in children that sugary desserts and candy is a reward is harmful.
Sugar is as addictive as cocaine and eating too much causes;
-Tooth decay
-Behaviour problems
-Gut issues
-Obesity
It also changes your child’s perception of how food tastes, so an apple or a banana will no longer taste sweet at all.
Even though I’m not a parent myself (yet), I totally get that parents are between a rock and a hard place when it comes to candy.
If you deny them, they’ll sneak it anyway, lie and think you’re “the worst parent ever”.
And if you indulge them, they’ll keep wanting more and then YOU’LL feel bad because you’ve essentially given them poison or a drug.
So, what do you do? We have to change our relationship with sugar and create healthier habits for our children.
Next time your kid asks for a sweet, explain to them WHY we eat healthy food and all the ways nutrients from REAL fruits are good for our bodies and can turn us into superheroes.
Also, explain how sweets are filled with chemicals that are bad, and make us weak, grumpy and unhealthy.
The truth is that children don’t need candy at all, since it provides ZERO nutritional value.
Even “in moderation” candy sets off a cascade of addictive chemicals in the brain that will make it harder for you to say “no” next time.
Point is, feed your kids real fruit that’s high in nutrients, antioxidants and fibre, just as nature intended. Not toxic crap that ONLY exists for the profit of big corps.
Do you have tips and tricks on how to get kids to love eating healthy food from a young age? Share them in the comments section so we can all benefit!
