I am reading about ways managers/leaders may unintentionally set their teams up to fail, because if we’re being honest it’s not always the employees who are the problem.
In one article, a manager asks an underperforming employee, "How is my behavior making things worse for you?"
To me, this says that an environment has been created where accountability is valued and psychological safety exists—all key ingredients for a thriving workplace.
I’m also thinking about that question in the context of all of our other relationships. How often are we willing to hear that something that we are doing is making life worse for them?
I wonder how different work and would be if this question got asked more often.
