I mentioned this recently in a post but clients often don’t know what’s possible and what’s not. And we shouldn’t expect them to! It’s our job to clarify!! I have messed this up SO MANY TIMES. Don’t be like me!! Set realistic expectations from the get go. (In this reel I’m kind of using the classic example of super dark hair with color on it wanting to go platinum blonde in one session but obviously I adjust the words for the specific scenario!) ✖️“I love your inspo photo and over time I would love to work towards that. It’s unlikely that we will get to that goal at today’s appointment.” ***right off the bat get it on the table that its *unlikely* (substitute “not possible” if there’s absolutely no way) that they will not be walking out with the goal hair at this appointment. ✖️“I can’t say for sure how many sessions it will take but it will be dictated by the health of your hair.” ***this is the truth!! Not something we are just saying to bullshit clients!! Sometimes no matter how hard we try, hair is too fragile/porous/processed to do what we want it to do. ✖️“Today we can expect to get some pops of very warm brown but it’s very unlikely that any pieces will be blonde. Is that something you’re okay with?” ***give the worst case scenario. It might get lighter than you think, but make sure they are okay with spending hours, paying a lot of money and not seeing the major changes they want to see! Not because we are trying to waste their time or money, but because hair has limitations!!! They deserve to know what’s realistic right off the bat so they can decide if it’s a road they want to go down. Was this helpful?
