Uh... at least it’s sparkly? ✨ While the sand striker (Eunice aphroditois) may not be the cutest sea critter, it is an important part of its ecosystem. This marine worm is a ravenous predator that burrows underground with its head facing upwards, waiting for prey. It has five antennae that it sticks out above the sand to sense for, and lure in, unsuspecting fish. When curious prey approach, it strikes at lightning speed with powerful jaws, snatches its meal, and pulls it down below. If that wasn’t fun enough: This species can grow as much as 10 feet (3 meters) long.
