Titled: when Adam was sleeping, Eve opened her eyes While they all get rest, she thinks of the ways the world has been hurt by it’s own broken edges. She starts to get lost in the gap between what is and what should be, and she finds tears in her eyes for the first time. She gets up and trips on cracked hopes that have been beaten like a dead horse, over and over by a broken reality. She waits, listens. She hears the hum of snores and smells the remnants of fire. Fire. Birth. Life. Death. All she wants is someone to calm the raging fire in her beautiful mind, to make right the wrongs brought forth by her own children, her own creation. By her. Maybe it was her fault after all. She reminisces on a different time.. That which all of creation could recite the name of the Divine and pulsed with the drum of the universe as one, steady beat. & the day itself didn’t seem so different from the night. But now.. it’s so dark. So lonely. Before everything changed, there was a time that no heart got lost when the sun went down and the air got crisp. All of creation knew the beat of the one heartbeat carried them to morning and their last name was the same as the darkness. Her broken heart aches for the day that good and evil finally remember each other’s names and look each other in the eye. & finally, no one will have to say goodbye again. Her tears make her remember that there will come a day where words won’t be needed to explain away sick children and a burning world. And there will come a day when good and evil become one again and stop fighting for truth. And she won’t have to wake up to a little more death every day, any longer. And all pain she found in birthing this broken world would finally maybe be worth it. And with that, she fell asleep and woke up to Adam tending the flock and making breakfast. And for the first time for so long, she finally felt peace.
