Growing up in Michigan, my mom worked at a paper mill. Not behind the scenes in the cushy air conditioned offices either, she was sweating her ass off every day on the floor actually making those giant rolls of paper. She worked her ass off and loved it. There was a program that enabled freshman college kids to work at the mill as summer help and make some great summa cash. We were assigned random jobs not pertinent to what we were studying in college. I drove dump trucks and fork lifts and learned most importantly that this work was NOT something I ever wanted to do again...and it made me study my ass off. (This lil story ties in, stay with me)
My mom would urge me to go to the union meetings with her, a place where I learned a lot about local political systems and it gave me a lot of respect for the blue collar workers defending their rights for fair wages and safer work environments. To this day I cannot smell freshly copied or printed on paper without thinking of that summer job.
Fast forward nearly 20 years when it came time to work on the collateral items for @unionparlor I could not help myself but to create business cards that resemble those laminated union cards from the paper mill, except this time around these are wayyy cuter. No?
