We've got a few dogs right now that we thought would be spoken for the minute they arrived, but yet here they are, still waiting for their forever families a few months later. Muscrat is one of them. Maybe it's because his name is spelled wrong. Don't shoot the messenger... or punish the pup — that's what he came with. Can't think of another reason he's still prancing around out there at the end of an Adopt Me leash. Two years old, 22 lbs, life of the party, housebroken, and friendly with dogs. Covered. In. Scruff. Unheard of for a dog with so many fine qualities to remain blatantly on the market. Could be his aircraft carrier sized brain though. This kind of intelligence can be intimidating. If you're not ready to confidently take the lead, he'll be the one teaching the commands. Training enthusiasts, get over here — Muscrat is perfection. In unsure hands, he kind of jumps all over the place, but whip out a treat and ask him to show the cool tricks he knows, and he's glued to your every word. He's got a lot of life in him and is super eager to learn. He'll need an experienced grownups or older kids only family ready to give him lots of structure, jobs to do, and exercise (90 consecutive min minimum per day plus potty walks). His foster mom, who posts his pics on @jerseyuppyfosterpuppy, says: "Muscrat leaves miles of smiles behind him wherever he roams. He adores meeting people and dogs on the street, and all he wants is to play and make new friends. He can be over-enthusiastic in this, and he does have a tendency to pull at the leash. This has improved since I first took him in and with professional training from someone more experienced than myself I think it will be solved pretty quickly. Which brings me to my next point: Muscrat is CRAZY smart. So far he knows sit, stay, fetch, drop, leave it, shake, high five, and showing tummy. He does have a prey drive and will lunge at birds.
