it’s my old man’s birthday today. here’s some savage Scorpio energy for y’all from the archive ❤️‍🔥🦂♏️ As an aside, African studio photography coming out of Nigeria from the 1970s onward doesn’t get enough love. This shot of my dad speaks to that legacy. But also my man @bradogbonna has a gorgeous body of work at @icp that honors the craft’s Nigerian tradition. There’s also another stellar show @fowlermuseum organized by my dear friend Erica P. Jones focusing on Cameroon studio portraiture. No shade, but we’re not all operating from Malick Sidibé or Seydou Keïta, although they were influential for the efflorescence of the genre coming out of West and Central Africa.
