✨The Living Mountain✨

"There are many reasons to adore Nan Shepherd's The Living Mountain, a book that exemplifies - in my opinion - the very best of nature writing. Recounting Shepherd's lifetime in the Cairngorm mountains, Scotland, it is a book that is deeply spiritual and often almost adoringly attentive to the subtleties of nature - subtleties that truly only reveal themselves when the viewer, the walker, the writer, slows down and opens to the possibilities before her. It is a book that pays as much attention to the colours of water and snow as it does to the humans who traverse the mountains, but it refuses any trite treatment of the theme, any whimsy about the force and brutality of the place. It's the labour of a person who gave themselves to the mountain on a daily basis, without bombast and with as little ego as possible.
It's magnificent - a true masterpiece."
