And now for something *exclusive* for you guys - some brand new work that I’ve never shown before, my portrait of Joan Marie, shot on location in Texas earlier this year. . I knew going into the shoot that I wanted lighting reminiscent of that classic ‘American West’ timelessness, as I was photographing something so deeply American. So I relied on just one soft light - a Profoto B10, stuffed into a Medium Profoto White Umbrella with a diffuser on the front. I also wanted to show some of the ‘process’ of photography in a nod to one of my heroes, @AnnieLeibovitz, as well as nodding to Richard Avedon’s ‘American West’ project (@AvedonFoundation). I was nodding a lot. . ANYWAY - the big reason I use Profoto gear (going all the way back to my first Profoto purchase in 2013 of a B1) is that it’s studio light, but it’s BATTERY POWERED. That means that I’m able to recreate studio photography no matter the location, and which enabled me to make this portrait for Joan Marie to the highest standard I could, and give her something that even 15 years ago wouldn’t have really been possible. .
