On 20th September, an Ebola outbreak was declared in Uganda. Since then, MSF teams have been working alongside the Ministry of Health to support the response, applying our experience from other Ebola outbreaks. ____ This Ebola outbreak is caused by a relatively rare variant of the virus, known as the Sudan strain, which currently has no vaccine. We know this will bring several medical and operational challenges. One of the areas MSF teams are focussing on is preventing the spread of the outbreak. We are running an outreach project in Mubende and surrounding districts to reduce the time between the onset of the symptoms, the alert and the admission to an Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) or an Ebola Treatment Centre (ETC). Outreach includes health promotion, infection prevention and control, investigation, contact tracing and providing social support to contacts who have to self-isolate. ____ Photos: MSF health promotion team share information about Ebola infection prevention and control measures © MSF/Sam Taylor ____ #MSF #doctorswithoutborders #medical #humanitarian #emergency #healthcare #ebola #uganda
