PUMA IN HEAT - SPRING ARRIVES TO PATAGONIA NATIONAL PARK, CHILE! Our strategic collaborator, @RewildingChile, shared this video of one of the female pumas we monitor in Patagonia National Park, in the Aysén region of Chilean Patagonia. She is known as Vega, and in the video, you can hear her vocalization, calling a male. This is common behavior for female pumas when they go into heat at the start of a new reproductive cycle. If she’s successful in finding a mate, she will be the mother of 2 to 4 cubs in three months. Thanks to rewilding, the puma population in Patagonia National Park is healthy and vigorous. By protecting the puma, we are recovering the ecosystem!
