**LONG POST - BUT PLEASE READ IT** We're home now from our trip to the Gulf Coast and I feel like I can start to process what's happening in the USA right now. It's not just high-level scary, but it's deeply worrying for so many reasons. While rights are being stripped, there's discussion of even more SC cases being reviewed that DEEPLY impact everyone. While there hasn't been a reversal of Obergfell (gay marriage) or Lawrence (decriminalizing homosexuality) or Bostock (termination based on orientation) it's been made clear that these rights protections aren't safe. Today in Florida: - HB 1557 (Don't Say Gay) - HB 7 (Stop WOKE re: educators teaching truthful history concerning race or sexual orientation events AND allows employees to sue over "discomfort" in the workplace relating to racial or LGBTQ issues) - HB 5 (15 week abortion ban) would be in effect but a judge placed a hold on it temporarily All of these issues deeply impact ALL of us. If you think these things don't touch you, consider how people you know (including us and our children) will be affected. With Don't Say Gay our youngest (k-3) may be prohibited from sharing about his family as that may bring up questions about being a two-dad family. With Stop Woke the way our kids are taught about history, from Civil Rights to Stonewall to actual slavery, will change; projects I do with FL based clients can now be subject to lawsuits if I make somebody uncormfortable in standing up for myself or my family. Restricting rights, speech and access to accurate information is how nations fall. It's how people lose their livelihood and how ACTUAL oppression takes hold. Often I say "If you haven't had your rights determined by the Supreme Court then..." and now it's boiling down to everyone facing this in some form or another.
