FOUR WILD JAGUAR CUBS GROW UP IN IBERÁ
More than 70 years after the jaguar, the largest wild cat in the Americas, was driven into extinction in the province of Corrientes, Argentina, there are now four wild-born jaguar cubs growing up in Iberá Park.
They are the newest additions to the ground-breaking work to re-introduce the jaguar to Corrientes, a project of our strategic collaborator, @Rewilding_Argentina. The first pair, Arandu and Jasy, were born to Arami on San Alonso island and will turn 5 months old today. The second pair, Yvoty and Mombyry, were born only a few days later, also on San Alonso, in a remote corner of this large island in the middle of the Iberá wetlands.
These four little jaguars bring new hope for the recovery of the jaguar in Corrientes. They are growing healthy and strong under the care of their mothers and the protection provided by the more than 1.7 million acres of Great Iberá Park.
With these cubs, there is a nascent but thriving population of the top predator in Iberá, with twelve free jaguars all contributing to the ecological recovery of the wetland, grassland and forest ecosystems of Iberá. As these cubs grow, so does the health and beauty of Iberá Park!
