Let’s talk a little bit about boundaries & deciding to no longer service a client...
I’m sure we’ve all been there at least once.
And it can be one of the hardest conversations to have. I wanted to share an experience I had a few years ago...

Here are some of my key learning when it comes to boundary setting with clients:
1. Trust yourself. I cannot tell you how many times in the consultation I knew that I was not the right match for my client, but I continued with the service anyways. I learned the hard way that it’s much more important to set boundaries upfront than try to backtrack. It’s only hurts the relationship on both sides.
2. Know what your boundaries actually are, and be willing to communicate them. If we have the expectation but we’re not willing to communicate it it can build up resentment & ruin a relationship. But first we have to understand what our boundaries actually are, & what the outcome is when the boundaries are overstepped. If we have this clearly outlined in our head then it makes the decision uphold a boundary so much easier.
For instance in the example in the email above, I gave this client three separate appointments to see if there was any change possible, and the outcome was the same every single time. This established a pattern of behavior that clearly communicated to me that she don’t respect my time my skill or my professional opinion. I didn’t take it personal, it was just truly a mismatch for both of us.
3. Good customer service doesn’t rely on low boundries. What we allow will continue. If we establish clear boundaries at the beginning of our client relationships, communicate them clearly and kindly, & hold ourselves to the same standards we can have really amazing relationships with all of our clients!
