I’VE CREATED OVER 100 MIXTAPES IN MY CAREER, and AM ONE OF THE.... most original & innovative mixtape DJ’s alive. Prove me wrong. Creating over 120 mixtapes is releasing a mixtape a month for over 10 years. These were not just mixtapes where I collected records & mixed them. My mixtapes took time & a crazy amount of creativity. I was the first person to dub my mixtapes, “street albums” because of all the original music I produced on them. I would spend a month just creating my elaborate intros, & I would chase people down, book studios, & get artists to give me verses and freestyles to produce music around them. I’d find rare verses & create brand new records with these artists & create new choruses. I would drive & fly to people around the country just to get the smallest thing from them to add more originality to my mixtapes. No one knew me. I didn’t have money, or have any connections. I had passion, & drive. I didn’t ask, I made people GET FAMILIAR. And, this wasn’t a hobby. I TOOK MY JOB SERIOUSLY! So seriously that I then built the worlds biggest mixtape website to help other mixtape DJ’S, mixunit, then I created mixtape distribution in New York by recruiting a kid who worked at an artist Mgmt firm to take me, & other DJs mixtapes, and be the foot soldier who delivered and connected with the stores and streets. I built this almost 20 years ago, & it grew to become one of the most important era’s in #hiphop , and it made 5 million the first year. Mixtapes were the internet & introduced artists, DJ’s, & new music to the streets. This is an era that shaped what hip hop has become today, & is almost forgotten, however, many DJ’S that shaped this era, are still poppin today. RIP Kay Slay I’ve created art w/ Eminem, to Pharrell, Kanye West, Busta Rymes, to Rick Ross, Clipse & even Fallout Boy. Even though the mixtape era, as it was, no longer exists, my passion & drive to be the most original & innovative at whatever I do, remains the same.
