Hi! I’m Brian and I run Wooden Sleepers. This account gained a lot of new followers lately, so I thought I’d introduce myself. 2025 marks 15 years of Wooden Sleepers, which is crazy to me since it’s longer than I’ve done almost anything my life. I started Wooden Sleepers out of my one bedroom Greenpoint apartment in 2010, but my love of vintage goes back to junior high scouring the thrifts of Long Island. In 2014 I opened my first bricks and mortar store in Red Hook, Brooklyn with no loans, no partners, and no real business plan. GQ called it “The best new vintage store in NYC”; New York Magazine including Wooden Sleepers in its annual “Best of New York” issue; and The New York Times called it “An oasis of cool”. Vintage lovers from all over the world visited that small shop on Van Brunt Street and my life was never the same. In 2020, after a six year run in Red Hook, Covid hit and everything came to a grinding hault. I was forced to close my shop permanently, which was truly heartbreaking, but proved to be one the best decisions I have ever made. For the past five years I have continued to source and sell the best of American vintage online and in person at our store in the scenic village of Tuckahoe, NY. I have collaborated with some of my favorite brands such as Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, Todd Snyder, J. Press, Brooks Brothers and Sperry. Currently, I have an ongoing partnership with L.L.Bean curating thematic vintage drops through the year highlighting the best of Bean’s vast archive. On a personal note, I’m happily married to my best friend and have two kiddos, 3 and 6. I enjoy lifting weights, although I don’t identify as a “gym bro”. I still like going to the occasional hardcore show and try to avoid getting spin kicked in the face by a 16 year old. I sing in a band called @publicshameny and hop on a skateboard every now and then to make sure I can still kick flip. Life is good. Happy to still be here. As always, I appreciate the support.
