My sister Cressida’s exhibition of woodblocks and their one print opened at the Philip Bacon Gallery in Brisbane two nights ago, breathtaking and sold out. I had not seen any of the pictures beforehand and am sharing my ecstasy with you, these are just three of the eleven in the show, all images of the interior of her house, drawn, carved, painted and printed during Covid lockdown and her recovery. Cressida almost died two years ago of an abscess in her brain requiring two critical surgeries and much rehab. She made a remarkable recovery as seen by this exhibition, all done post surgery. She first draws in pencil the image on wood, carves the image, paints it in watercolour, and from that makes one mirror image print. She sells both the woodblock and the print. Cressida’s exceptional new husband, fine art printer Warren Macris’ support and creative compatibility (soon to be revealed in thrilling ventures in Canberra show) has been essential in her recovery and making this possible. A major retrospective of Cressida’s work opens at Canberra’s National Gallery of Australia, NGA, this September. @philipbacongalleries @ngadc
