Stick my toes in the cold moss hoping it’ll ground me only to be filled with a solemn longing for warmer days and company. The trees always notice me, the birds, the squirrels, the grass. I only exist to them most days. Reaching my roots to whatever will witness my existence. I exist when you sleep, when you dream your touch as sweet as the moss on my feet. I stay still in the warmth, hold my breath.
